Following multiple episodes of suspense, plots and backstabbing, Celebrity Traitors concludes with a nail-biting end
Spoiler alert - This piece reveals details from Celebrity Traitors conclusion
Over the course of the show, viewers witnessed murders, double-crosses, intense glares, and a memorable moment that cut through the overwhelming tension.
Yet on the final evening, the ultimate victor of the first Celebrity Traitors was revealed.
From nineteen participants, only five were left standing: Traitors and faithfuls facing off for the prize.
Soon, the field narrowed to just three: the remaining contestants.
In the end, funny man Alan Carr emerged as the winner, in a surprising result that broke the internet and left him emotional.
"This has been destroying me, my apologies," he exclaimed, revealing to the other players that he was actually one of the deceivers. "I feel terrible about this."
"You did brilliantly," they comforted him. "Everything's fine."
Social media quickly erupted with the news. "The worst deceiver being the best traitor ever," wrote one user.
"It couldn't have been a more iconic ending," wrote another, while a third described it as "the TV moment of the year."
The organization he selected, Neuroblastoma UK, will receive all the prize money, with the final pot amounting to eighty-seven thousand five hundred pounds.
Alan Carr's transformation from comic relief to cold-hearted killer was among the most memorable aspects of the season.
However, his victory still shocked viewers surprised, according to entertainment reporters.
"The idea of Alan, among everyone, pulling off a masterclass in deception felt just as probable as him maintaining composure through one of his own punchlines."
During follow-up conversations, fellow players summed up the reasons nobody had ever really suspected him.
"He might have come down to the morning meal in traitor attire and I wouldn't have believed he was deceiving us. His humor distracted me," one participant said.
"The majority didn't vote for him because how can you vote for a person so charming?" asked another celebrity.
Carr said he had "absolutely loved" his time on the program.
"I'd like to do it again... I don't think it would be successful again!"
The final episode was lengthened to 70 minutes on television. There was an unusual opening than usual, as all the celebs knew who'd make it at the breakfast table.
Viewers heard particularly inspiring, and very un-Traitors-esque music, as the episode revisited some moments from every remaining player's experience in the game.
As ever, Alan Carr gave us unforgettable quotes.
"To be honest, I began this game a bit of a nervous wreck. I've thrown close allies to save myself, I've murdered national treasures in plain sight. Apparently I'm more deceptive and player than I thought."
Meanwhile, another contestant noted that reaching the conclusion was "way more stressful than competing with England", while someone else said he was "completely amazed" to have lasted this long.
Early on in the episode, various contestants appeared to be attempting to become the fashion standout of the castle, replacing the previously eliminated style leader.
Carr emerged at breakfast looking like a vintage television personality in a checked maroon suit, later switching into an embellished light-colored outfit.
But he was outstyled by another contestant's burgundy formal wear. What a look.
Following this was the challenge, with the final players getting on board a locomotive called - naturally - The Deceivers' Railway.
The challenge involved destroying images of eliminated players. Have sympathy for a player who was hit on the head THREE times by the cover of a substantial container.
Before long, it was time for the roundtable.
Two traitors made a pact in advance, pledging to support each other. "We've come a long way, I'm not going to betray him," stated one, while their partner just giggled.
However, one adhered to his promise. Yet, having slipped under the radar for the majority of the competition, their partner still received the majority elimination votes.
The remaining traitor looked like he was in significant distress to be the last traitor standing. "Now I'm on my own, I feel terrified," he said. "I'm a loose cannon, a rudderless ship."
Online platforms and onlookers were similarly upset.
"I did NOT want that player to be banished. A truly loveable traitor," commented an observer.
"You will forever be remembered in the show's legacy," wrote another user.
But there was little opportunity to focus on this departure. Before long, the game reached the endgame - which was what we were really all here for.
The final four stood over the ceremonial fire. And the alliance collapsed, just when it was most crucial, in an absolutely shocking development.
One contestant was painfully banished - following a surprising decision from their ally, who betrayed them.
"It hurts to be betrayed last minute in that manner," remarked the eliminated player. Subsequently, we learned that if they ever communicate, the betrayed player refers to their former ally by a betrayer's name.
Finally, only three contestants were still competing: the last participants.
A contestant, looking incredibly smug, chose to conclude the game. So did another, and it all came down to the third, who made the identical choice - resulting in the deceiver emerged victorious.
For observers, the moment where remaining contestants comforted the champion was "compelling television". "I predict it could be in the running for memorable moment at television honors," they said.
Fortunately, the champion quickly regained composure from his emotional outburst, and was able to enjoy his victory.
"What a rollercoaster. I was awful at lying, I had no poker face and now I stand the champion," he said.
He also joked about that infamous murder - his best friend during the initial stages - by leaning toward the host in the final scene and touching her cheek.
"You've got something on your face," he said, with his characteristic laugh.
The recent episodes of famous people scheming, plotting and sometimes unexpected moments may seem like one big crazy jumbled dream. But it really did occur. It will be remembered fondly.
