A Ton of Anime News Landed Over the Festive Season

The winter break offer a wealth of activities considerably more enjoyable than catching up on the headlines: unwrapping gifts, indulging in holiday treats, and using meditation skills to not snapping at family members. It is wished you succeeded in do all these things and more. Nevertheless, the world of entertainment doesn't go on vacation, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Numerous exciting announcements emerged during the holidays, and should you didn't see any, here is a roundup of the biggest bits.

One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Set to Continue (Come 2027)

Truly the most surprising revelation, the much-discussed controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to stop further production. The show will return with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they could have called it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be at the helm. At least this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the outset, which is seen as a good sign. But, the main art for the second cour is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This makes me think that, nowadays, they are probably teasing the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a name for being an prestigious animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the exceptional quality of its productions but for the fair treatment of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not adapted an anime stemming from a manga published in Shonen Jump, arguably the best-known magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it first appeared in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it came back with a more relaxed pace, the series demonstrated it hadn't lost the fans' affection and enthusiasm, and now the community is ecstatic about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Its Sixth Season Has a Sequel Now in the Works

Kingdom is the top-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English translation, but the anime has been running for years, and its sixth season was yet another stellar entry. Apparently that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in production, and it will almost certainly debut in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

One more studio famous for the superior craftsmanship of its work, Science Saru has delivered masterpieces of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and fascinating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my watchlist.
